My dad still gets that little bit comically irritated that I say soda instead of pop. I went to California when I was 17 or 18 and stopped calling pop pop. It was too regional. I was already a hick just for being from Nebraska. Now, I am an unashamedly American speaker in the middle of the most regionally specific bit of the world I've ever been to. Man do the Brits have location specific accents. It is completely Professor Higgins 'round here.
