TP: Spring Has Sprung (for Gramma Bunnie)

My Gramma Bunnie loved roses. On her clothes, as tchotchkes, as wall art, ROSES!
Unbeknownst to either of us, I relocated in the Rose Capital of the Universe ♥
So now, a whole year since she's been gone, I enjoy my first Springtime Rose blossoms for her...
See what else is springing up!

TP: Spring Has Sprung (for Mr. Horseradish)

One of the first things planted in our garden space was this little chunk of bareroot horseradish. Unlike his neighbors, Lavender, Mint, Rhubarb & Rosemary, he didn't take too well to his hew home right away. When we were adding on new beds for growin', my co-farmers thought maybe it was time to give up on Mr. HR, perhaps make better use of his prime garden real estate. *I* on the other hand, thought maybe what the ol' guy needed was some more compost, some more water & sun and a bunch more love and time...
And whattaya know? There's life left in 'im afterall!
I.was.right! Faith Rocks!
Thanks Mr. Horseradish, I'm still rootin' for ya!

Innit he beautiful?!

I See an Emerging Potter, Part 2

In the entrepreneurial spirit of the untrepreneurial fair at Life is Good, I've been quite productive!
As we all celebrate my 42nd birthday, I'm making magnets to remind folks to Be the Answer. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish these, some will most likely hit the Raku  kiln!
And as I ponder what other sorts of things I could make and have for sale to my friends...
This lil guy jumped right out to play!
He reminds me a bit of a Jizo statue; dianacized, of course!
I'll be whipping up as many of these as I can,
so maybe you can have one in YOUR garden, too!

I See an Emerging Potter!

(said -in my head- with my very best Stephen Fry-as-Dumbledore voice)
This bowl therapist was created in a moment of incredible frustration with the wheel,
and it arrived at our appointment today like this, all peace-full-like:
What once came to me as plain ol' sticky dirt

Will leave my hands, transformed to beauty...
I never work alone...
those blue/purple speckles at the bottom of the bowls?

TP: Spring Has Sprung

Carmi jumps back into the Thematic Photographic game with an easy to take and tough to choose theme: Spring has Sprung. I love getting out of the house with a photo-taking-device on warming Spring days. I love too, to sit with an editing program on the not-so-warm-yet Spring days ♥ Aaaah the baby steps I'm taking!
Though I (we all) know I'll be throwing in the easy pictures from the stars in our gardening space, I wanted to kick off this Springtime Rebirth with my all-time favorite first sign of Spring, for realz, Tulips.

Diana Jenner's Aboriginal Line

Pottery. A fancy word for sticky dirt. My newest source of immense challenge and growth. A pottery exploration course at community college is turning out to be the most expensive investment I've made in therapy, and quite possibly the most effective.
And the jury's still out with the official overall opinion, because each experience in the studio has been completely different than the one before and the next to come.
From the first step into the studio, I've been painfully reminded of the 6 year old not-an-artist who still lives, quite wounded, within me. Mrs. Simunek rolled in the television, strapped to it's gigantic cart, and clicked (meaning: manually turned, as in twisted with her hand) the channel knob to 5, PBS. We had our supplies all lined up, at the ready, at our individual desks. I can still smell them The red second hand rolled slowly around the clocks face until *click* it was time for Art Class. In 1973, our art teacher wore a smock and a huge floppy "artist" hat, and spoke to us through the television once a week.  I'm sure she was bright and flamboyant, as artists I've come to know since, though she came to us in the monochromatic glory of the day.
I was really good at school, Art was just one more thing I'd find easy, I just knew it. I listened well, I followed along, and whoops! I didn't want that line there! Just as I picked up my eraser, the hatted tv lady said, "there's no erasing in art!" and I couldn't stop her and tell her how I really had to erase this one line, so I could be good. She just kept on keeping on and my picture was awful. It wasn't art and it wasn't easy. So I was done. Just like that, I wasn't an artist. Not my thing. No thanks.
This little kid's had lots of years to stew about Art. She's a force to be reckoned with and, frankly, I'm ready. She needs to grow up and let me be good at this. She's most definitely coloring my experience with her process of letting go of then and allowing a new now.
I managed to successfully create a couple of mostly-round bowls. Then I broke one. In between I threw and collapsed more containers than I want to count. Once, I even left the studio in tears with nothing accomplished. Okay twice, in tears; more often without success.
I invited my friend Stefan to come mentor me, which really helped. Helped me realize perfection on the wheel might be a touch beyond my reach, at this exact moment.  His trips to the wheel, along with the incredible potters in this studio, are immediate gratification for him. He sits down and vooooop! he's got a vessel! And there's the added bonus of his company alleviating my frustrations with well-placed jokes and encouragement.
With his inspiration, I did have a total of three bowls survive to their first firing.  One is still lost among the stacks of once-fired bowls. Once I found two, I spent some time in the glazing room, watching folks dip and dunk and dab. I sidled up to the least intimidating of the gang, and asked advice on my very first glazing project.  Sure enough, I suddenly had all kinds of advice pouring in!  I didn't follow much of it, choosing my own crazy (mostly purples!) color combinations & generously applying Hannah ashes to the drying glazes.
Last night, I had my most productive night of all. I decided, before going to class, that my focus was going to be success. However that looks, whatever comes of it, I wanted to taste, feel, enjoy and celebrate success!
I bought fresh clay, wedged several chunks with Hannah's ashes, and got my passionate, productive Self to work! Future "Be the Answer" magnets, counter art trays and bowls -- I even used cord to decorate one!

I saw my painted bowls go into the kiln tonight... I'll get to see the actual Hannah Ash Effect & bring home my very first masterpieces by Friday.  Me and my first-grade Artist are both incredibly excited!

Wrote Me a Letter

I wrote Mitch a letter last night.  While I looked at this photograph.
Christine immortalized this moment for me, adding my tattoo over his tumor site.
Oh so little did we know!
We were in the Black Hills, on our honeymoon. My short arms captured this much of my surprise kiss/picture.  We'd been married in Vegas 10-or-so days before, spent a week in LA with friends and then got a hotel room in every state (sans AZ) we crossed on the way home. This was a few-day layover, in the Heartland Paper Corporate condominium. It was off-season, so we had the place to ourselves ♥ Not much time for sightseeing ;) The carpet in the living room, however, was a lovely shade of 70s goldenrod, I do remember.  After this break, we moseyed into Sioux Falls in time to have a Labor Day weekend Reception at Stoner's Bar. Complete with another cake and a Keg :)
Life was Big and Forever seemed Infinite.

Hell, I was honored he'd even noticed me, everything after that was some kind of crazy jackpot that kept paying out. I was the luckiest girl in the universe. He was the love of my life. And crazier? I was the love of his life. The mother to his children. An incredible way we had of honoring one another.

And still I get to honor him every single day, by parenting his son. By modeling the greatest gift of all, daily forgiveness.

Releasing my need for that fairytale life to have been permanent. And accepting the gifts of knowing that life, that love.
Releasing the need to see both of my children grown. And accepting all Gifts, in their impermanence.
Releasing attachment to anything that is not right here, right now. For nothing else truly exists.
Realizing this is all I need. All my needs are met.
And it's all I have. And it's all I need.
That I can count on.
Amen.
Thanks Mitch, again, for the jackpot you continue to be in My Life.

Spring Sadness

Most days are a shiny blue egg, all round and perfect and full of hope and life. And some days, just for shits and giggle, it seems the gods drop your blessed egg, right onto the proverbial dandelion. (I just proverbialized said dandelion.)
I got nothing to bitch about. I'm a baking maniac with a son on vacation, making said mania guilt-free.
I got new connections on Facebook with more and more people I really miss having in my life; and those I don't even know I've missed from my life ;)
And. I miss my girl.  Her baby friend is on Facebook and she misses her friend. I miss their friendship.
Mostly and always though, I just miss my girl.
Hannah is my blue egg, her death is it's smashing to the grass... the destruction overwhelming, the purpose beyond the grasp of my present Self. Yet somewhere therein the whole cycle, lies a glimpse of beauty in that which I cannot understand.
I've got a letter to Mitch formulating in my head. I shall commit it to paper, then to Ren, to be documented and archived in her Letters to the Dead.  Maybe I'll make a practice of it. I'll work my way up to Hanners...
